Welcome to Graphic Design III
We will be learning more about the industry standard of Branding and Identity Marketing , Principles of Design in Composition, portfolio development and how to create designs in a professional presentation. We will be using the Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator. and InDesign.

Graphic Design III
- COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a continuation of Graphic Design II. This course provides advanced graphic design students with instruction in advanced techniques and processes. Students will work on projects simulating challenges found in the design industry such as corporate identity, publishing, advertising, web applications, and package design. Portfolio development will be emphasized. The appropriate use of technology and industry-standard equipment is an integral part of this course. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired entry-level skills for employment and be prepared for postsecondary education. The purpose of this program is to prepare students for postsecondary education and employment in the Graphic Design industry.
- CANVAS AND INFINITE CAMPUS
- Canvas will continue to be the system we use for accessing instructional materials, submitting assignments, and taking tests. Students will be provided with a school Chromebook which will be their responsibility to care for, keep charged, and bring with them to class each day.
- Infinite Campus will continue to be the system used for official grades: Progress Reports, Report Cards, and Transcripts. Students and parents will continue to use the Campus Student Portal and the Campus Parent Portal to view student progress and grades.
- TEACHER OFFICE HOURS
Office Hours are Mon-Thurs from 1:25 - 1:50

- CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING STUDENTS
Grades will be updated in Infinite Campus a minimum of once per week. Help using Infinite Campus can be found on the school website.
- Summative Grade: Tests/Projects
Tests/Projects will account for 75% of your quarter grade.
There will be a minimum of three (3) assessments per quarter.
- Formative Grade: Assignments/Quizzes/Classwork
Assignments/Quizzes/Classwork will account for 25% of your quarter grade.
There will be a minimum of nine (9) assignments in this category per quarter.
- Late Work
When assignments are not turned in, they will be marked as “L” for Late but will not be calculated into the student’s grade. Assignments that are still flagged as late after two (2) weeks will be changed to a “M” for Missing and scored as minimum F (50%) until the assignment is submitted.
- “Minimum F” Policy
CMHS will continue to follow the “Minimum F” policy. The lowest grade a student can earn on an assignment or for a quarter grade is a 50% F.
- Grading Scale
Grades will be determined based on the following scale:
A 100 – 90%
B 89 – 80%
C 79 – 70%
D 69 – 60%
F 59 – 50%
- Semester Exams and Semester Grades
Semester exams are given at the end of the 2nd and the 4th quarters. These exams will make up no more than 10% of the student’s overall semester grade.
Final semester grades will be calculated based on the following weights:
45% 1st Quarter Grade/3rd Quarter Grade
45% 2nd Quarter Grade/4th Quarter Grade
10% Semester Exam
- HOMEWORK
The purpose of homework is to apply the skills taught in class and to prepare for additional concepts. Students who complete their assigned homework will be more successful on their summative assessments. Homework will be used for practice or extension of learning. Completion of homework will not carry any weight in the gradebook.
- RESOURCES/MATERIALS
All students will use a Chromebook or similar device to access their Clever accounts and to submit their work through Canvas. All students will use desktop computers at school during class.
All students enrolled in this course will pay a yearly $40.00 fee. Fees will be paid to the banker, in the office with cash or a money order OR online through the school website with a credit card.
- MAKE-UP WORK AND LATE WORK
- Make-Up Work
It is expected that students attend their class periods as scheduled. However, if students must be absent, it is important that they complete their make-up work. Students who miss a class will coordinate with the teacher during Teacher Office Hours to receive their make-up work.
- Late Work
Students who attend their classes and turn in their work on time will achieve the most success. If a student is in attendance for class and does not submit their assignment by the due date, it will be considered “Late.” Late work can be submitted up to two weeks late for full credit.
- BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
In accordance with student privacy laws, ONLY students assigned to this class are allowed to attend, participate in, and view our class. Whole-Class and Office sessions cannot be recorded or photographed by students and cannot be shared with non-students. All bullying laws and school policies will be strictly enforced and students will treat each other with respect at all times. Students who violate these policies will be referred to the Discipline Office.0
- Students need to be on time for attendance at 8:30am
- Students will not use cellphones in class unless for a specific assignment.
- Polite language is expected and required on all discussions, chats and during classes.

- CITIZENSHIP GRADES
Students’ citizenship grades will be based on the four categories of Commitment, Motivation, Honor, and Success as outlined in the CMHS Spartan Way Citizenship Rubric.
- ACADEMIC DISHONESTY - CHEATING/COPYING/PLAGIARISM
All students enrolled in CCSD schools subscribe to the Code of Honor. Cheating, copying, and plagiarism takes various forms, but at the core, the act is taking the ideas and work of someone else and passing them off as one’s own. Some examples of cheating/copying/plagiarism include:
- Taking a picture of an assignment to copy down later
- Copying, copying & pasting from the internet
- Doing an assignment “for a friend”
- “Sharing” answers or work
- Paying for an assignment (online or in-person)
- Stealing the answer key
- Hiding test answers or notes
- Changing answers after grading/without permission
Issues regarding academic dishonesty will be reflected in the student’s citizenship grade as outlined in the CMHS Spartan Way Citizenship Rubric. Students may also be subject to progressive discipline including parent/guardian contact, counselor referral, and/or discipline office referral.
